We have been introduced to 3D Printer couple of year ago, and we are already familiar with its potential and application. 3D printing technology is improving and getting more affordable.
Now we can even see, application of 3D printing making their presence in various field including movie making, manufacturing machine component, making of complex object, manufacturing aircraft parts, in near future we could possibly also see 3D printer printing out real human body parts with tissue and blood!
Right now problem with 3D printing is painting them accurately, because when we print out 3d objects it is a of a single color and basic model, which can’t be used as a final object in most case. There is a need to paint it with different colors and add every little detail that is needed to develop the final useful product. Printing with the traditional way is time consuming, expensive and not even highly accurate.
So there comes a need of something of some process or technique that could fill this gap of printing out the basic 3D objects and coloring it efficiently to the final product.
Hydrographic Printing could be the answer to this. In this technique we can transfer color inks on a thin film to the surface of a manufactured 3D object. It enables high-quality coloring of object surfaces and works with a wide range of materials, but suffers from the inability to accurately register color texture to complex surface geometries.
So there is a need of advance technique where which could provide high precision printing to complex object with ease. Computational Hydrographic Printing can help to overcome this issue. What makes Computational Hydrographic Printing different from Hydrographic Printing is that immersion is controlled with help with machine and no need to manually immerse object and multiple immersion will make it possible to give a perfect detail.
Basically, in this process 3D object to be colored is first colored virtually on computer with help of specific software. The application then converts the 3D colored object into 2 dimensional format which needs to be printed out in special hydrograph paper. This paper with help of solvent is kept in a solution where the 3D printed object can be placed. 3D object is then immersed accurately with help of computer and automated machine. This helps to transfer the required color on the object instantly.
In short, make a object in a 3D printer and paint it paint it virtually, later with help of computational Hydro graphic printing, color it accurately.
